What is Tarnovo Ultra?
The first Ultramarathon of Veliko Tarnovo – The old Capital of Bulgaria. We started in 2016 and we are not quitting any soon!
When will Tarnovo Ultra – Amazing Views 2017 take place?
On 09 April 2017 (Sunday) The start and finish area will be at the heart of the Second Bulgarian Kingdom – Tsarevets Fortress in Veliko Tarnovo (map with the start-final area)
What is the competition program of Tarnovo Ultra – Amazing Views 2017?
08 April 2017 (Saturday)
20:00 – Audio-visual programme "Tsarevgrad Turnov in Sound and Light"
09 April 2017 (Sunday)
07:00-09:00 – Registration and starting package collect – start and finish area in Tsarevets Fortress
09:00 – Technical information, demonstration of electronic system and marking and safety discussion
09:30 – Start of 35km MTB – (The first 1000m are out-of-competition)
10:00 – Start of 25km and 45km Trail running (The first 1000m are out-of-competition)
11:00 – Start of 5km run for kids and beginners – only in the Fortress
Approximately 15:00 – Prizegiving ceremony
What is required from the competitors to start?
1. Filled up and signed declaration for competition on own responsibility (it will be filled-up in the registration process in the abovementioned hours).
2. For MTB – obligatory helmet.
3. The competitors should get to know the route information published by the organizers in advance.
4. Health and physical condition, matching the complexity and difficulty of the route.

25km / 45km trail running & 35km MTB

How do I register?
What is the route of Tarnovo Ultra – Amazing Views 2017?
The start and finish area is in the main Fortress of the Second Bulgarian Kingdom – Tsarevets. The route goes around the beautiful areas of St. Trinity Monastery, Kamaka Ecopath – Gorna Oryahovitsa, Bozhur Hut, some beautiful rock slopes around Veliko Tarnovo, the impressive Arbanasi Village architecture, St. St. Peter and Pavel Monastery and Ksilifor area. How the route will be marked?
With signs, nylon tapes and color spray. Detailed information will be given on the technical conference before the start.
In addition, GPS-tracks are available for pre-running the course and navigation with GPS-device during the competition.
Control times – Cutoff times
There is no cutoff time for the finish.
Control times (Cutoff) for Arbanassi point:
25km Trail – until 14:00 (10km from the start)
45km Trail – until 14:00 (20km from the start)
35km MTB – until 12:30 (15km from the start)
SportIdent time-measurement system will be used. Detailed information and demonstration will be carried out at the technical conference before the start. Electronic cards (SI Cards) will be given in the starting packages. After the finish (or DNF) every competitor should hand back the SI Card at the start-finish area. Lost, broken or not-returned card should be paid by the competitor.
Every competitor can give to the organizers at the finish arena (09:00 at latest) spare parts and instruments, that will be transported from the organizers to a specified place at the middle of the route.
- Everything should be well packed and signed with the numbers of the competitors, allowed to use it
- Spare parts and instruments will be transported back to the finish arena 15:00 at latest
Who is behind the competition?
Brown Team Sports Club - founded in year 2007. One of the leading clubs in Foot, MTB and Ski-orienteering in Bulgaria. In recent years, Brown Team is competing also in Athletics, where we have many great achievements through Bulgaria’s leading orienteering and mountain running competitors – Kiril Nikolov – Disl and Ivan Sirakov.
Where the idea came from?
For quite some time, different parts of this route has been used by competitors of Brown Team and other Veliko Tarnovo athletes as a training ground. We decided that the time has come for us to share the enjoyment of the wandering around the rocks and hills near the old Bulgarian Capitol.
What should you expect:
1. Sights, that deserve a selfie or two, even if you’re in a hurry
2. The unique chance to have a run in Tsarevets fortress
3. Overly exhausted but smiled competitors
4. Enough refreshment points and some additional drinking water points on the route
5. Many photos so you can tag yourself
